BTEC Higher National Diploma in Software Engineering

Course Content

The course is intended for people who wish to pursue a career in developing professional software.
The course contains the following main study areas :

Computer Hardware, Introduction to Software Development, Structured Programming in several languages, Software Packages, System Analysis and Design, Databases, Computer Graphics, Operating Systems, Management Information Systems, Mathematics and Statistics and Multi-Media Applications

Why Study Software Engineering?

Whereas many aspects of computing are covered, the course lays particular emphasis on the production of high quality software using formal methodologies, supported by CASE tools. Students will concentrate on the following areas:

• Requirement Analysis
• System Design

• Visual Basic
• Pascal

The course contains a large element of practical, hands-on computer experience using a state-of-the-art UNIX / Novell / Windows network.

Conditions of Entry

• BTEC Diploma or Certificate.
• At least one 'A' level and four appropriate GCSEs at Grade C or above.
• An alternative qualification of equal status.
• The college may also admit students aged over 21 with relevant on or off-the-job training.
